About Us

Our Mission Statement

Our goal is to foster high musical ability and a deep enjoyment of music across all aspects of choral performances. We aim to provide a safe, enriching environment where singers can rehearse and perform together as a cohesive team. We endeavour to offer a variety of musical styles and performance opportunities to suit the interests of all members, and we encourage choir members to actively participate in every rehearsal and performance.

Choir Director – Introducing David Webster

David is a life-long choral singer, and has worked as a choral conductor for all of his adult life. He is currently Music Director of the Bach Society of Queensland and Conductor of the Senior Choir of the Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir. He has been a regular guest and assisting conductor around Brisbane, including for Brisbane Chorale, the Queensland Choir, Canticum Chamber Choir, the Australian Catholic University Banyo Campus Choir and various church choirs, and is also in demand as an adjudicator and workshop clinician. David previously held long tenures as Musical Director of the Queensland University Musical Society and Director of Music at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Fortitude Valley, and spent some years as the conductor of the Emmanuel College (University of Queensland) Choir. Nationally, he has served as Assistant Chorus Master at Australian Intervarsity Choral Festivals in Hobart, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane.

David was the recipient of the Seventh National Sydney Symposium Choral Conducting Scholarship, which saw him spend two months of 2015 in the United Kingdom, observing and working with some of the best conductors and choirs in London and Cambridge. Closer to home, he has participated in conducting workshops with the Sydney Chamber Choir and Symphony Australia, and studied at postgraduate level with Johannes Fritzsch at the Queensland Conservatorium.

David’s conducting experience spans much of the great choral repertoire, from the Renaissance and Baroque through to modern works, and includes a number of World, Southern Hemisphere, Australian and Queensland Premiere performances of both major and smaller works.

In addition to his roles on the podium, David regularly sings with Fusion Vocal Ensemble and the St Stephen’s Cathedral Choir and Schola. He was a member of Canticum Chamber Choir for nearly 20 years, a Lay Clerk in the St John’s Cathedral Choir for ten years, and has performed with all of Brisbane’s major choirs. David has also been a guest singer with The Australian Voices, the Adelaide Chamber Singers, the cathedral choirs of St Paul’s, Melbourne, and St Peter’s, Adelaide, and the London Symphony Chorus.
